Kraft custom packaging boxes

Sustainable Custom Packaging for Ecommerce Brands

A greener box is usually a smaller, simpler box that still protects the product. Extra layers, oversized mailers, and plastic windows add weight and waste without making the unboxing better. Custom sizes are the most useful sustainability choice because the board is cut for the product you actually ship.

Right-size before you add materials

Measure the product and the void you can accept. A mailer that is only a little larger than the item needs less filler and dents less in a stack. If several SKUs share one size, group them by footprint so you are not carrying five cartons that differ by a centimeter. Fewer sizes also means fewer leftover flats at the end of a season.

Board and ink that can be recycled

Kraft and plain cardboard are widely recycled when they are not laminated into a mixed material. A full-color CMYK print on recyclable board is a normal curbside carton. Plastic windows, heavy foil, and foam inserts are the pieces customers cannot put in the same bin. If the brand wants a natural look, print on kraft with a restrained color set instead of wrapping the whole box in film.

Say what the customer should do with it

A short line on the inside flap — “recycle this carton” — does more than a leaf icon with no instruction. If you include tissue, say whether it can go in the paper bin. Keep the claim specific. “Recyclable carton” is fair when the board is a standard paper carton. “Plastic-free parcel” is only fair when the tape, window, and filler are too.
